On May 30th, 2024, the city of Abuja witnessed a momentous event as the Defence Intelligence Agency Headquarters was officially commissioned by His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Representing His Excellency, the Senate President of Nigeria, God’s Akpabio, Tinubu’s presence added an extra layer of significance to the significance of the occasion.
The newly commissioned Defence Intelligence Agency Headquarters is a state-of-the-art facility, equipped with the latest technology and designed to provide a conducive working environment for the men and women who serve in the Defence Intelligence Agency.
One of the key highlights of the commissioning event was President Tinubu’s assurance of an even better working environment for the Defence Intelligence Agency. With his experience and expertise in governance, Tinubu understands the importance of providing a conducive working environment for employees, and his commitment to this cause is evident in his words and actions.
The Defence Intelligence Agency is responsible for providing essential intelligence to the Nigerian government and assisting in the formulation of policies and strategies to safeguard the nation’s security and interests.
The success of the agency’s mission is heavily reliant on a conducive working environment, and Tinubu’s assurance is a testament to his strong support for the agency and its vital role in the country.
In his speech, Tinubu also emphasized the need for teamwork and collaboration within the Defence Intelligence Agency. He expressed his confidence in the agency’s leadership and urged all employees to work together towards achieving their goals and contributing to the nation’s security.
The commissioning of the Defence Intelligence Agency Headquarters also marks another milestone in developing Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city. The complex is a wonderful addition to the city’s landscape and adds to its reputation as a hub of government and diplomacy.
Speaking on Thursday at the Defence Intelligence Agency Headquarters’ commissioning event in Abuja, President Tinubu provided the guarantee.
In the presence of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu assured the entire armed forces of Nigeria that he would continue to provide welfare, training, and other administrative and logistical requirements to enhance productivity and enable you to fulfill your mandate. I firmly believe that having a supportive and well-equipped intelligence unit would have a positive effect on the collection, processing, and prompt delivery of intelligence to the various military branches.
“Let me, at this juncture, commend the leadership of the DIA past and present for conceiving and completing this beautiful edifice,” said President Tinubu, praising the current and future leadership of the Defense Intelligence Agency for seeing to the project’s completion.
I sincerely hope that this spectacular office building will inspire ingenuity and originality in the field of intelligence collection, keeping Nigeria one step ahead of its adversaries and improving security for our people.
Speaking further, Tinubu stated, “Since taking over as our great nation’s leader a year ago, I’ve made it my highest mission to secure every inch of our country.” I do not intend to back down from this fundamental task. It is with immense pleasure that I am present to officially open the DIA headquarters today.
The DIA is a vital component of our security framework, mainly supplying intelligence to the Ministry of Defense and our military forces.
He claims that “many security challenges across the six geopolitical zones have bedeviled our country.” In addition to physical threats, we now confront economic and digital ones. Regarding digital dangers, we are all aware of the ability of terrorists, criminals, and cyber bandits to make use of technological advancements to harm any country, even our own. For this reason, security ranks first on our administration’s eight-point program. We use our military forces to support the civil authorities in each of the 36 federation states.
“You have to contend with them behind your computers, using AI if necessary, which enables our military to know the position of our enemies or the games they are up to, and of course, you will do that in secret,” Tinubu said about other dangers. I am aware that our enemies hope that as time goes on, we will become less committed to addressing different dangers, and that our courage, optimism, and defiance will never waver. Our enemies misinterpreted our DNA.
Nigerians’ fundamental spirit cannot and will not submit to evil forces. He said, “You all have left me with no doubt that serving this country is your only higher obligation.”
General Emmanuel Undiandeye, the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, had earlier commended President Tinubu for his military support since taking office and assured him and his administration of the Armed Forces’ continuous allegiance to his leadership.
“Mr. President, sir, I want to sincerely thank you for your unwavering support and recognition of the role that intelligence plays in maintaining national security. You also demonstrated that you mean what you say by providing the resources necessary to complete this building.
“We are much obliged to you for leading us to this crucial juncture with your vision and leadership. Your Excellency, allow me to state unequivocally that this edifice will continue to inspire us, be a ray of strength and resiliency, and represent our shared will to safeguard and defend our dear country in all of our future endeavors. We will ensure that this artistic manifestation meets the expectations of the public. Allow me to take this opportunity to assure you, our Jagaban Sir, of our complete dedication to your leadership and the accomplishment of your Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigerians. We will diligently strive to accomplish all the aspirational objectives you have set for our country under your fearless leadership.
Undoubtedly, we acknowledge the steady progress we’ve made towards our ultimate goal of a secure nation, but we also understand that we still have a significant amount of work ahead. Therefore, we will continue to progress along our planned path towards permanent security.
Moreover, this commissioning event serves as a reminder of the government’s commitment to providing top-notch facilities for its agencies and employees.
